William "Scott" Mekins Obituary

"Scott' William John Mekins, Jr., 52, of Parkville, Maryland, entered into eternal rest March 18, 2023, to be with his Lord.  Scott was born on August 12, 1970, to William and Nancy Mekins in Baltimore, Maryland.  He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1988 and later enlisted in the United States Army as a 63Y Track Vehicle Mechanic.  He served on active duty from March 1, 1989 to February  28, 1992.  Scott was a Specialist in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where he demonstrated his bravery and dedication to his country from October 1990 to April 1991.  Before his health declined, Scott worked for many years as a Driver Service Rep at Chesapeake Surgical/DePuy Synthes, a Johnson and Johnson Company.  Scott was a proud longtime member of Shelbourne Baptist Church in Arbutus, Md., and later attended Connections Church in Halethorpe, Md.  He cherished his relationship with God and loved spending time with his family and friends. His sense of humor was contagious, he always had a way of bringing laughter and joy to those around him.

Scott was the beloved husband and best friend of Sarah Jean Mekins of Parkville, Md. Devoted father to the late Ashley Marie Mekins of Arbutus, Md; Sarah Elizabeth Mekins of Glen Burnie, Md,: Dennis Patrick Lantz, Jr., and David Jonathan Lantz both of Parkville, Md.: Alexander Nicholas Connelly and his wife Cecelia Elizabeth Connelly of Brunswick, Md. Loving grandfather to Alex Connelly of Cockeysville, Md., and Costa Connelly of Brunswick, Md.

Scott is also survived by his sister Darlene Marie Spindler, her husband John Spindler and their daughter Heather Spindler, all of Catonsville, Md.  His brother Robert Emanuel Mekins, his wife Tracy Mekins, and their children Christopher Jones of Albuquerque, NM, Ariel Mekins, Candace Mekins, Tori Mekins and Robert Mekins, all of Hanover, Pa.  His sister-in-law Patricia Bruchey of Parkville, Md. His sister-in-law Cynthia Schoenback, her husband Danny Schoenback, and his brother-in-law Michael Lantz, all of Ferndale, Md.

Scott was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Marie Mekins; His mother Nancy Emily Mekins; His father William John Mekins:; His paternal grandparents Emmanuel and Lilly Mekins; His maternal grandparents, John and Evelyn Schultheis.

Scott will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  His family and friends remember him for his warm and kind heart, his unwavering faith in God, and his dedication to his country.  May he rest in peace and forever be remembered as a hero and a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
