Rodney Guiles Obituary

Rodney Guiles, age 63, departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on July 7, 2022. He was born on January 29, 1959 in Newark, NJ, one of five children to the late William and Eunice Guiles .
Rodney enjoyed martial arts (brown belt), art, music, cooking and family gatherings. Early on, he developed a strong fondness for art, which included sketching, oil and pastel portraits and a personal mural.
He attended and graduated from Arts High School in Newark, NJ. He had a music collection which included his favorites; Prince and George Clinton (Parliament-Funkadelics).
After high school, he served in the United States Marine Corp specializing in culinary arts. While in the Marines, he married his first wife Joyce (Martin) from that union they had Yasin (Jessica) and Naadiya (Thurlow "Tee"). He also had another child: Tamara. Following his discharge as a Lance Corporal, he went on to work as a head chef for Stouffer's and J.B. Winberies Bar & Grill (NJ). During his employment years, he held management positions in retail pharmacies throughout New Jersey and Maryland.  While working at CVS Pharmacy, he met and married his beloved Patricia "Pat" (Davis).  Rodney and Pat began their life together in Maryland.  Both changing careers but Rodney found his passion again working at the Department of Veteran Affairs Canteen Services (VCS) in Washington D.C. Rodney continued at the VCS until 2013 when he had to leave on medical retirement.
His love for cooking was the highlight of his life. While working at J.B. Winberies, he often said "I would have done that job for free"
Even in retirement Rodney would not stay home! He took on a part-time job at AVIS/Budget Rentals.  Here he shared his enthusiastic, charming and loving desire for work with a new family.
Rodney is survived by Pat, his wife of 18 years; his children: Yasin, Tamara, Naadiya; stepson: Marcus; brother, Ellis (Patricia Ann); sister, Celeste; five grandchildren: Aaliyah, Gianna, Deonte "DJ", Niara and Nyla; sister-in-law: Julia (Blakeley-Guiles). He leaves behind a nephew and niece: Elijah and Jasmine and a host of other family members and friends. He also had two brothers who preceded him: William and Kermin.
Rodney is loved by many and missed by many. Praise in GOD for taking him home.
