Obituary

“Mary Patricia Belton of Linthicum, Maryland died as a result of cancer on August 11, 2022. She was 61 years old. Mary was born on July 3, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland; the oldest of three siblings to John Francis Devanny, Sr. and Patricia Ellen Devanny.

Mary is survived by her husband Mark; their six children Elizabeth Grace Leland (Michael) of Woodstock, Virginia, Maura Kathleen Belton of Baltimore, Maryland, and Scott Christian Belton, Anne Patricia Belton, John Crampton Belton, and Peter Joseph Belton each of Linthicum, Maryland; their seven Leland grandchildren Gabriel Francis, Seraphina Elise, Madeleine Cecilia, Cyprian Benedict, Perpetua Rose, Joan Josephine, and Remigius Jude; her two younger brothers John Francis Devanny Jr. (Miriam) of Front Royal, Virginia and Martin Edward Devanny (Taisha) of Hagerstown, Maryland; her mother Patricia Ellen Devanny of Hagerstown, Maryland, twenty three nieces and nephews, and scores of extended family members and dear friends.

A graduate of Andover High School and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a major in English, Mary possessed a lifelong thirst for learning and educated her six children at home. Frequent moves supporting her husband’s career took the family to Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia a second time, and finally to Maryland once more. She was a true daughter of the Roman Catholic Church and her constant prayers made a difference in the lives of her family, and so many others. If Mary was your friend, she was your friend for life. She was a talented seamstress, frequent and gracious hostess, tended garden, loved sacred music and constantly sought new ways to celebrate and spread Catholic Tradition. She possessed a zeal for the salvation of souls, particularly those of her own family.
