Francis Mathai Obituary

On January 20, 2019, Francis John Mathai, "Frank," passed after reaching the age of 98.

The Son of John and Catherine (nee Sawicka), he was born and raised in Baltimore coming to the Linthicum area in 1957.

During World War 2, Frank served honorably in the United States Army as a medic in the European Theatre where he was wounded.  He left the service in 1945 as a Tec 4.

He earned an advanced degree in Chemistry following the war, working for various industries as a Chemist.  Frank  was a party to the developement of the HiC fruit drink that became an American icon.

Frank was known as a "stoic," who enjoyed a good walk and the pleasure of smoking his pipe.  He was an avid gardener and reader and was particularly fond of Opera.  Fiddling with gizmos and gadgets also brought him satisfaction.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in the Holy Trinity Senior Club and is a past Treasure and member in good standing with the Ferndale Road Runners.

Frank joins his dear wife Margaret Rose (nee Duimicki) in eternity after  her passing one year earlier.

Surviving is his loving daughter Lisa Ann McDermott and  partner Jim Conley as well as his beloved sons Doug and his wife Jenny Ellis and Scott and spouse Angie Mathai.  Frank also leaves behind his devoted grandchildren Tyler and Sydney Mathai and Jordan and Kendall McDermott.
