IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Lee
(Horning) Carpenter
January 25, 1938 – November 25, 2020
On November 25, 2020, Shirley Lee Carpenter, ( nee Horning ) passed peacefully following a brief illness. She was 82.
Born the daughter of Harry E. and Gladys E. ( nee Alender ) Horning, in Baltimore, she would live in Hanover for many years and retire to Queenstown Maryland for the last 40 years.
Shirley is the dear wife of the late Robert L. Carpenter, Sr., with whom she spent 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2019. Together they shared membership with the Grasonville Senior Center for 20 years, and Shirley continued her membership there for the last two years. She was a traveler and enjoyed road trips and cruises with her club. She especially liked to travel to the beach with family and deeply loved spending time with the kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was also a fan of casinos and spent many days trying her luck at games of chance. In February of 2020, Shirley was able to complete a trip of a lifetime to the Hawaiian Islands. It was a dream she and Bob shared for many years and though he could not be there in person, he was there in her heart.
Surviving are her daughters, the loving Sheryl L. Ingle and her husband Walter, Jr. and beloved Kimberly "Kim" Confer and her husband Gary. Shirley leaves a devoted son Richard "Rick" Lee Carpenter and his fiance' Melissa Buchal. She joins in passing her late son Robert "Bobbie" L. Carpenter, Jr.
Her memory lives on in Her cherished grandchildren, Walt Ingle III and his wife Kari, Christopher Ingle and his wife Alyson and Shane and Sydney Carpenter. Shirley will be deeply missed by her beloved great-grandchildren, Peyton, Aulbrey, Tucker and Layla Ingle.
Finally the last of a generation, Shirley is reunited with her late siblings Edna Fritz, Beverly Robb, Edith Earling and Harry Horning, Jr.
