Phyllis A. George Helmick Heverling, age 76, passed away on December 3, 2014. She was the dear daughter of the late
Ruth Ann (nee Reddick) and Melvin C. George, beloved wife of the late Howard Helmick, who passed in 1978, and the late Earl Heverling, who passed in 2014. She was the devoted mother of William R., Michael A., George Bo and Ruth A. Helmick, Effie Wiles, Rosa Lee Cook, 4 step children, 3 foster children and the late Richard Workman and loving grandmother of 17 grand and 10 great grandchildren.
Phyllis was born in Baltimore in 1937. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1956. She was employed by the Department of Legislative Reference in the Code Revision division for 25 years before retiring. During her tenure there, Phyllis attended the University of Maryland where she earned her certificate in the paralegal field. She enjoyed traveling with the State on conferences. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, #1176 and was a Senior Regent in 1994-95, American Legion Auxiliary Post 277 and the Stoney Creek Democratic Club.
Among her interests, Phyllis liked reading, crosswords, bingo, traveling, crocheting, sudoku and cats. She had a zest for life and loved to be active in the community.
She will surely be missed.
The family will receive friends on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 & 7, 2014, from 3-5 & 7-9 PM at Fink Funeral Home, 426 Crain Hwy., S. in Glen Burnie where funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 AM.
Interment: Crownsville Veterans Cemetery
