Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Arnold Bathras sadly passed away on June 16, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.

Pat was born to Charles John Heming, Sr and Marjorie Gertrude Heming (nee Harrison) on February 9, 1937. She is survived by siblings Charles John Heming, Jr and Gertrude Ann Heming. She was preceded in death by her older sister Barbara Susan Gain.

Pat attended the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD from 1st grade through her junior year of high school. While in high school, she was employed as a fashion model by Hochschild Kohn's Department Store in Baltimore. After completing her junior year, in the summer of 1954, she moved to Portland, ME to join her parents and younger siblings who had moved there a few months prior. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Portland in 1955. She worked in women's fashions at Porteous, Mitchell and Braun in Portland before marrying Themistocles (Pete) James Bathras, Sr, on September 1, 1956. Pete preceded her in death in 1996.

Pat is survived by her nine children: Themistocles "TJ" (Jennie) Bathras, Jr; Jeffery Bathras; Karen (Brooke) Bathras; Brian (Dawn) Bathras; David (Belinda) Bathras, Sr; Nicole (Mook) Martel; Curt (Susan) Bathras; Patrick Bathras; and Eric (Elizabeth) Bathras. She was proud to have 26 grandchildren and 17 (and counting) great-grandchildren. She loved sharing with everyone how large her family was.

Pat loved to travel the world. As the spouse of a career military man she was stationed at locations as varied as Bad-Kreuznach, Germany, Tacoma, WA, and Anchorage, Alaska. After military life she continued her journeys with family vacations, typically to Ocean City, MD to enjoy the sun and sand, or Portland, ME to visit family. Later in life when her children were grown, she once again began exploring parts of the world she had yet to see. She liked to tell her friends how she was fortunate to travel with all her adult children and grandkids, sharing her love of travel with those closest to her.

She had an infectious laugh she shared with everyone. She was deeply faithful and was active in the Catholic Church as a lay minister for many years and then later as part of the bookkeeping staff. If she became your friend, she was your friend for life. Until recently, she was sending Christmas cards to friends she'd known for 50+ years. She loved sitting by the pool soaking up the sun. She loved cruising. She loved the Baltimore Orioles. She loved blue crabs. She loved her family. She loved life. She will be deeply and profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations she supported throughout her life including Hospice of the Chesapeake, Bello Machre, the American Cancer Society, and the Alzheimer's Association; or any charity that is close to your heart.
