On November 20, 2020, Norman Edward Atkinson (Bud), age 92 passed away peacefully at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Margaret ( Payne ) Atkinson, beloved Daughter Linda A.(Atkinson) Sherrod, parents Arthur E. Atkinson and Viola P. (Wolf) Atkinson, Brothers Arthur E. Atkinson and Raymond P. Atkinson. He is survived by his sister Joann (Atkinson) Lawler of Florida.  A devoted father, he is survived by his sons, Thomas E. Atkinson and wife Linda M. (Whipple) Atkinson; Timothy J. Atkinson and wife Kimberly (McCann) Atkinson, Grandson Timothy R. Atkinson of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. His son Michael A. Atkinson, wife Kelly of Millersville, Maryland; Grandson Shawn M. Atkinson and wife Leslie (Peery) Atkinson and Great granddaughter Elizabeth Skye Atkinson, of Ferndale, Maryland.  His son Daniel G. Atkinson, wife Sheryl A. ( Overfelt ) Atkinson and Step Grandchildren Mandy (Kirkland) Connolly and husband Daniel Connolly and Great grandson Erik Connolly, Dustin Kirkland and fiancé Heather Capezio of Pasadena, Maryland.

He is also survived by his beloved Granddaughter Brigitte M. Sherrod and her fiancé Scott Norton. He is also survived by Granddaughter Crystal L. (Sherrod) Jaskulsky, Husband Daniel H. Jaskulsky and Great Grandchildren Riley J, and Caleb E. Jaskulsky; also survived by nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

On May 20, 1928, Mr. Atkinson was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland. Mr. Atkinson graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute; he attended Commercial Radio Institute and studied engineering at McCoy College, night division of Johns Hopkins University.

He served as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Third Army in Europe from 1945-1953. He was in charge of a Communications and Reconnaissance detachment primarily in Germany.  He was honorably discharged. Mr. Atkinson held a Radio Telephone Operators License. ​Upon his return to the United States, he married the Love of his life, the former Margaret Payne. They had five children together.  He was previously employed at Bendix Radio, Goddard Space Center NASA and Westinghouse.  He was also assigned to Widapapsco and assigned to Iran Electronics in Shiraz, Iran. Mr. Atkinson retired from Westinghouse after 33 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, former member of the Knights of Columbus, St Agnes Council. Mr. Atkinson was a loyal fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Severn, Maryland.

Pastimes include spending time with family, traveling, camping, reading, photography, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, walking and breakfast and lunch clubs.  He also enjoyed watching western movies. A favorite hobby was tinkering with electronics. Mr. Atkinson was a man of integrity and a loving husband, Father and Grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
