December 1, 1955 – September 29, 2025
Suddenly, on September 30, 2025 Louis "Lou" Hitty passed away at his home in Linthicum.
Born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania the son of Thomas and Edith Hitty (ne'eSmith), he would spend his youth in the Honesdale area. Lou graduated from Honesdale Junior Senior High School in 1974 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He would serve for 20 years ultimately retiring in 1994 from the U.S.S Theodore Roosevelt, CV-71, in the rating of AT1 Aircraft Systems Technician 1st Class. Following his honorable service Lou joined his father in the family business, Hitty and Son, a 2nd generation construction business that he would ultimately own and operate. At the end of an era, Lou would take yet another career at Southwest Airlines where he faithfully carried out his duties as a Facilities Technician for 9 years.
In his leisure time, Lou enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and playing pool in a league. Additionally he used his carpentry skills learned in the family business for woodworking and building custom cabinets. His passion however was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He spent many miles on Poker Runs and road trips traveling as far as Daytona, Fl for Bike Week, the annual motorcycle gathering. As a member of the Baer Harley Owners Group Lou performed precision riding demonstrations and other feats of skill.
Lou is survived by his dear wife of 50 years, Kay Jeannette (ne'e Wilson) as well as his devoted daughter Laura Hitty Cuda and Husband Patrick and his beloved sons, Paul Hitty and fiance' Jeneane Ryan, Thomas Hitty and wife Kelly and Edward Hitty and fiance"Jeanna Dickinson. His legacy continues in his cherished grandchildren, Logan Morrison, Shelby and Patrick Cuda and Callie, Grayson, Ashley and Lanna Hitty. Lou will be dearly missed by his sisters, Karen Cobb (late Corey) and Maureen Travis and husband "Ike," as well as numerous nieces and nephews and several uncles. He will be fondly remembered by his close friends, Thomas and Barbara Theobald and Duane and Angie Baer. Lou is reunited in his passing with his siblings, Tommie and Barbara Hitty, and Maryann White.
For his faithful and honorable service, Lou will have full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Due notice of services.
