Obituary

On April 13, 2021, Lillian "Jeanette" Groh passed in the fullness of her 98th year.

Born the daughter of Ross and Margaret (nee Weaver) Larkin in Baltimore all those years ago, she would live many years in Stoney Creek on her family horse farm.

Jeanette was exposed to horses at a tender age, working as an exercise rider for the Thoroughbred Race Horses her family bred.  She loved to ride and told stories of adventures riding from the farm as far as the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, on the exposed SANDBARS present at that time.  She would eventually become a master horse-woman.  Growing up on the Patapsco River Jeanette also was an avid swimmer.  By todays standards she might even be called an ultra swimmer, as her swims would take her as far as Gibson Island and even Annapolis.  She was also very well read and very much enjoyed the works of Walt Whitman.  She knew the story behind all of the operatic works as well.  Jeanette loved animals, especially birds and passed her hobby to her children.

In a time when economic security depended on the entire family working, Jeanette, at an early age, would tend tables at her father's tavern, the "Lark Inn," during the influx of summer vacationers.  She was a "thimble girl," responsible for sweetening up the whiskey with a thimble full of sugar.  She was also a "runner" for the local book maker, not an uncommon job in difficult times.  Jeanette truly lived a colorful life in very turbulent times.   She was also known as a peace maker who could set most situations to rest.

Jeanette joins in passing her late husband Ellison Edwin Groh as well as one sister.  She is survived by her loving daughters, Jane Estes, Maggie O'Connor and husband "Bobby," and "Debbie" Wooleyhand and husband Chris. She leaves to mourn the loss her beloved sons, Ross Carbary and wife Janet, Edward and "Jackie" Groh, Dave and Trish Groh and Gary and Kelly Groh.  Her memory will be cherished by 19 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
