Sadly, on June 6, 2019, Kevin M. Vaught, Sr., affectionately known as "ButterBean," passed, following a protracted battle with cancer.  He was just 57.

The son of the late Kenneth M. and Anna Mae (nee Brazier), he was born and raised and spent his career in Baltimore City. Kevin was a Police Cadet  from 1981- 1983 followed by his dedicated service to the people of Baltimore as a Police Officer.  He retired in 2015.  During his time as a Policeman, Kevin made a substantial impact on the community and all he came in contact with.  He is notably remembered for earning the Award for Heroism with a "V" for valor, when he selflessly entered a burning building and rescued the occupants.  Towards the end of his career, Kevin mentored city youth, educating them and encouraging those who might be future city police.

Kevin was a man of strict character and dedicated and faithful in all that he did.  True to form, he met and married his high school sweetheart, Denice Ann (nee Shipley),  a love affair lasting 41 years with 36 years as a married couple.  It is said , "pretty much every  thing he did, he did for his family."  He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many.  "Everyone who met him liked him," it was commented.

Besides his duty to others, Kevin did have many activities he was involved in.  First and foremost, he was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America; himself an Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver.  He was also a member of the Sea Scouts.  A lifelong Catholic and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Baltimore, Kevin was also a  4th Degree member of  and past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus organization.

Other hobbies and interest included fishing, hunting and camping, as well as enjoying model trains and model rocketing.

Finally, it goes without stating, Kevin loved to eat out.  He enjoyed several local restaurants, who were the better for having him as a friend and patron.  If Kevin ate at your restaurant he frequently brought friends and family.  it was commented that these proprietors were "lucky to have  Kevin as a customer as he would be a great advocate for their businesses and a dear friend."

Kevin is survived by two sons, Kevin M. Jr. and  Tim M. Vaught as well as a brother Kenneth.  He is preceded in death by one sister, Helinore Burkard.  He also leaves his beloved cats "Tigger, Pooh, King and Izzy."

He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.  Truly, Baltimore City lost one of the good guys.
