Johnnie Edward Thompson, age 82, passed away on August 26, 2013. He was the beloved husband of 54 years of the late Marion H., dear father of Shawn and wife, Rebecca, daughter, Beverly Richards and husband, Harry, George Brown, IV and wife, Joan and daughter-in-law Arlene. He was the loving grandfather of Christopher, Griffin and Shelby Thompson, Roy Cole, Laura Fusto, Craig, Todd and Troy Richards, Robert Brown and Tanya Trent. He was the beloved great grandfather of Sarah, Jacqueline, T.J., Evan, Zachary and Erica Richards, Jessica McClouskey, Chelsea and Marcie Cole, Christen, Maria and Gianna Fusto and Sophia and Daniel Brown and great great grandfather of Jayden Daly and brother of Glenna Workman. He was also affectionately known as "Grandpop" to Brenda Elliott and Dene' Bowen.
John was preceded in death by his son, Barry Cole, grandson, Jeffrey Cole, brothers Lovell and Bernard Thompson, sisters, Madeline "Pete" Thompson, Sybill Linville and Leona Walls.
Johnnie received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University. He served his country in the United States Air Force where he held the rank of SSGT, received the Good Conduct Medal and was an Instructor and Guidance Councelor before taking the position of Engineer for Westinghouse. He lived in Glen Burnie for 50 years.
Holding the title of Honorary Life Member at the American Legion Post # 109, John served as Commander 3 times, 1st Vice Membership 5 times, 2nd Vice Commander, Finance Officer and Adjutant. He served as Chair for 27 Flag Marching Committee as well as other committees, and DEC of Maryland "White Hats". He was a true Patriot.
John enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle, walking, computers, and "going down the ocean", but most of all spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 7-9 PM, Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Fink Funeral Home, P.A., 426 Crain Hwy S. in Glen Burnie where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM
