John "Ernie" Strecker, Sr., age 94, passed away on October 13, 2014.  He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Gosnell),   dear father of John "Jay" Strecker, Jr. and Joan C. LeFevre, beloved grandfather of Brian and Jeffrey LeFevre and Jason Strecker and great grandfather of 5.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Carl Strecker. Ernie was a resident of Glen Burnie for the past 65 years.  He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.  He was a very generous man who volunteered for 20 years for the American Red Cross, participating in numerous blood runs.  This was something very close to his heart and had great importance to him and all those who benefited by his selfless dedication.  Ernie was awarded the "Gold 13 Salute" by WJZ TV for his tireless work with the Red Cross. As a career, Ernie co-owned the IGA Supermarket on Ft. Smallwood Rd. in Pasadena.  He enjoyed gambling & slots, fishing on the Eastern Shore and the Potomac River and spending time at Marley Station Mall, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will truly be missed...... The family will receive guests on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 2-6 PM at Fink Funeral Home, 426 Crain Hwy S. in Glen Burnie, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 10:00 AM.
