With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Johanna Magdalena Wilk, 83, of Glen Burnie, MD. Born February 26, 1942, she departed this life on Sunday, October 5, 2025, after bravely facing pancreatic cancer. Throughout her life, she was resolutely herself, unwavering in her determination to do things her way. Known for her adventurous spirit, Joke' was always willing to try anything, approaching new experiences with both courage and curiosity. Whether faced with a challenge or an opportunity, she embraced every moment wholeheartedly, inspiring those around her with her resilience and open mindedness. Her love of travel guided her far and wide, especially throughout Europe, and included several happy years living in the Netherlands, which brought her joy and lifelong memories. After retiring, Johanna devoted several years volunteering at the Maryland Science Center, sharing her enthusiasm with countless visitors and staff. She cherished community and friendship as a proud member of the Red Hat Society, and, in her later years, found comfort and purpose within Resurrection Lutheran Church, Brooklyn Park, MD serving with a grateful heart. Her legacy is one of independence, bold choices, and a deep love for those close to her. While she leaves a profound emptiness in the lives of her family and friends, she also leaves behind countless memories of laughter, self-determination, and the freedom to forge her own path. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Harry H. Wilk, son Charles Gauss; brothers Cronelis J. van den Heerik, Jacobus J. van den Heerik, Wilem J. van den Heerik, Pieter Ras. Surviving is her daughter Francien Wilk Scott (Jerry); grandchildren Tyler Scott, Andrew Scott (Taylor), Glen Gauss; two great grandchildren Eleanor and Harrison Scott; siblings Francien Winters, Henk H. Bastiaan Ras, Glenn van den Heerik, Linda Rachner (Tom), David Heerick, Sr., Sharon Cameron (Kent), Tina Sharpe (Pat), Dori Strother- Bradshaw, and Leo Heerick (Dana). A memorial service will be held at Fink Funeral Home on October 17, 2025 at 11:30am, refreshments to follow.
