IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edward
Hendrickson
October 29, 1961 – January 5, 2026
James "Jim" or "Big Guy" Hendrickson, age 64, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away on January 5, 2026. Born on October 29, 1961, in Baltimore, Jim dedicated his life to being a present family man and a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jim delighted in sharing his testimony of how God delivered him from the alcohol and drug use that characterized his teens and early 20s. After becoming a father in 1985, Jim wanted a better life for himself and his daughter Jamie. Accepting an invitation from a friend to visit Faith Tabernacle Church, Jim gave his heart to the Lord on November 23, 1986, and he passionately served Jesus every day after.
Through singing and preaching, Jim ministered at Faith Tabernacle, the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup, the Baltimore City Detention Center, and the Ordnance Road Correctional Facility along with "street meetings" and anywhere people needed to hear the Gospel - usually with Betty, his best friend and wife of 36 years, by his side. Deepening his Biblical knowledge, he attended the Christian Life School of Theology and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology. The last sentence Jim spoke was "I love Jesus."
Jim was an absolute original. He stayed unapologetically true to himself, and he never minced words or hid his feelings. Jim expressed his love through acts of service, especially cooking breakfast with his signature sausage gravy, fried potatoes, and eggs. He enjoyed driving fast (with his music blasting), visiting the shooting range, collecting bobbleheads, and playfully teasing loved ones and friends. He became infamous at car dealerships along Ritchie Hwy. because of his passion for negotiating new car prices.
Proud of his time in the U.S. Marine Corps, he valued patriotism and loyalty to his country. While he loved going on vacation to states like Alaska and Kentucky and on missionary trips to Trinidad, Uganda, and Kenya, he was happiest at his home on 2nd Ave. S.E. which he owned since 1991. There he found joy in hosting volleyball games in his yard, watching his favorite movies like "Tombstone," cuddling with his cat Pepe, and making memories with his daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Betty Hendrickson; his mother, Dorothy Hendrickson; his daughter, Jamie Hendrickson, and her fiancé Russell Hill, and grandchildren Raven and Peyton Jefferson; his daughter, Meagan Perez, and son-in-law, Major Marcus Perez, and grandson Victor Perez; his daughter, Nicole Belt, and son-in-law Corey Belt, and grandchildren Arlo, Cru, Shai, and Knox Belt; his brothers, Michael Hendrickson (Rita Hendrickson), Ronald Hendrickson, and Frank Hendrickson (Madeline Hendrickson; his sister-in-law Diane Miller; his nephews; and many other loved ones and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Jim's family will host a viewing at Fink Funeral Home at 426 Crain Hwy in Glen Burnie on Friday, January 9 from 6pm - 8pm. An additional viewing will be held at Faith Tabernacle Church at 2422 W. Patapsco Ave in Baltimore on Saturday, January 10 at 10:30am followed by a celebration of life service at 11am.
