Obituary

Elmer W. Beckner, age 94, passed away on February 4, 2015.  He was the beloved husband of 72 years to Elsie (nee Gross), dear father of William Beckner, Marion McKie, Patricia Reed, Joan Beckner and the late  Kenneth Beckner,devoted brother of the late Earl and Dolores Beckner and loving grandfather of 11 grand, 24 great grand and 2 great great grandchildren. Elmer was born in Baltimore, Maryland.  He proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard, then joined the Baltimore City Fire Department, first as a fire fighter, then earned his license and worked as a Marine Engineer on the Baltimore City fire boat retiring after 45 years of service.  He also drove a kindergarten school bus and had a lot of fun with the kids.  He was a very animated man with a big personality.  He loved talking to people and had many friends.  Elmer had a wonderful baritone voice and sang with the Baltimore City Glee Club, during Christmas he had an appearance on television, as well as singing at area nursing homes and hospitals.  He also sang in the church choir where he was a member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was also a Mason.  He enjoyed watching old western movies including John Wayne and Clint Eastwood films and he liked to watch The Jackie Gleason Show.  When Elmer took the family on vacation, they visited relatives on the Eastern Shore and West Virginia. The family will receive friends for a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1:00 at Christ Lutheran Church, 8249 Jumpers Hole Rd in Millersville.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
