IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elias
Konstantopoulos
December 13, 1938 – July 14, 2024
On July 14, 2024, Elias Konstantopoulos passed into eternal life surrounded by his
loving family. He was 85.
Born the son of Adamadios and Adamadia (nee' Katsoulis) Konstantopoulos in
Palaiopanayia, a village just south of Sparta, Greece, where he would enjoy the fruit of
his youth later emigrating to the United States in 1968.
Elias worked as an electrician for Modern Electric and later Westinghouse, retiring in the
early 1990s after 18 years of faithful service. He had the qualities of an engineer and
loved taking things apart and re-engineering them. He was known generally to like to
tinker with things and was a "jack-of-all-trades." Elias captivated and entertained others
with his story telling abilities and was always available to anyone and everyone who
needed help. He was a proud citizen of the United States who enjoyed trips back to
Greece with his wife.
Struck with the degenerative eye disease, Retinitis pigmentosa (RP), in the early 1980s,
Elias did not let this debilitating condition sideline him. Unable to work as an electrician,
he focused his attention on working with and being a study for the Wilmer Eye Institute
and Johns Hopkins Hospital, assisting in the development of novel eyeglasses for
people who have RP. He was a strong advocate for RP and was included in several
publications and studies. Elias, in an act of love, even donated his eyes after his
passing to further research into finding a cure.
Surviving him is his dear wife of 30 years, Dina Konstantopoulos as well as his two
beloved sons, Damian Konstantopoulos and wife Nicole, and Nickolaos
Konstantopoulos and husband Ben Gehle, and loving stepchildren, Katerina Thornton
and husband Eddie, and stepson, Peter Panagopoulos and wife Cleopatra, the mother
of his children and former wife, Panayiota Sarantakos.
His legacy will remain in his cherished grandchildren, Evey and Anthony Elias
Konstantopoulos and Evita and Hermes Panagopoulos and he will forever be fondly
remembered in the hearts of his devoted nieces and nephews, Joann and Joe Steranka,
Madia and Donnie Toll, Angela and Tommy Reines, John and Ellen Christopoulos and
Nick Christopoulos and his partner Desiree Clary.
Elias joins his beloved sister Sophia Christopoulos in eternal peace.
