Dorothea Shurtz (nee Kumpel) died peacefully on August 7, 2017 in Glen Burnie, Maryland at the age of 89. Dottie is survived by her; children, Mary Sherman (Dr. I Gary Sherman) of Millersville, Maryland, Harry Batten (Kim Batten) of Tucson, Arizona and Trudy Kennedy (Mark Kennedy) of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Dottie was born on July 12, 1928 in New Jersey to Harry and Mary Kumpel. After raising her children, she cared for the mentally handicapped and many elderly. She loved to travel and lived in many places across the country. Dottie was active in the Presbyterian Church of Fairton, New Jersey. She made the world a better place.
