Obituary

On April 12, 2025, Charles "Charlie" Franklin Ruby passed in the fullness of one hundred years.

Born a century ago to Byron A. and Gladys (ne'e DeHaven) Ruby in Baltimore, Charlie would live in Pennsylvania for a time and come to Hanover in 1955.

Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during  World War 2  in the Pacific and Korea with the Seabees and was honorably discharged at the rating of Carpenters Mate First Class.  He  would continue his service as a Computer Technician with the federal government for thirty years.  He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where he acted as a bookkeeper auditing the financial records annually.   Charlie also serve as Superintendant for the Wesley Sunday School.  He was active with the Pathfinders at BWI airport and was associated with the 4H Timberlins as well as serving as President and Treasurer and Head of the Anne Arundel County Fair with a total of 60 years service.

Woodworking was his primary hobby and Charlie expressed his talent  making wooden car and train models and making toys for family, children in the community and the church.  He routinely fixed broken furniture for neighbors and was known for "always giving a hand when anyone needed it."

Charlie is reunited in his passing with his dear wife, the late Cora F. (ne'e Patterson, 2012).  He is survived by his devoted daughter Christine E. Vidourek ( John Vidourek, late) and his loving son Eric Ruby and wife Cindy (ne'e Boyd).  He will be cherished in the memories of his devoted grandchildren, Stacey Burrows and husband Steve, Heather MacDonagh and husband Johann, Travis Ruby and wife Lauren and Chelsea McDaniel and husband Steven.  Charlie joins his beloved grandson Matthew Vidourek (Sherri Vidourek) on the other side.  His legacy continues in the lives of his great grandchildren, Chase M. Vidourek, Mackenzie Burrows, Liam Burrows, Heidi MacDonagh, Emmett MacDonagh, Barrett Ruby, Harrison Ruby, Paxton McDaniel,  Camden McDaniel and Javen Peterson.  Charlie joins his late sister Vola Colbert and husband Donald in the afterlife.
