Obituary

Charles Norman Peregoy, born June 22, 1948, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Charlie lived his life with quiet strength, deep devotion, and a love that never had to be spoken to be felt. He was the beloved husband of Maria for 51 years, a proud and protective father to his only child, Kelsey, and a grandfather whose heart overflowed for Calista, Camden, Cassidy, and Colette. To his family, he was the steady anchor, always there with unconditional love and support.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, carrying his pride as a veteran with dignity. After his service, he dedicated over 30 years of his life to Howard County Recreation and Parks, where he worked hard every day to care for the community he loved. He became affectionately known as the "Open Space Guru" for his knowledge, dedication, and passion for preserving Howard County's parks and open spaces. His coworkers not only respected his dependability and leadership but also loved his sharp humor, which could bring laughter into even the busiest of days.

Charlie's love for the outdoors and nature was at the heart of who he was, whether through his career in parks or the quiet joy he found being outside. More than anything, he treasured time with family—sharing laughter, telling stories, and playing card games. His humor, warmth, and devotion leave a legacy that will be remembered always.

Charlie was predeceased by his siblings Glenn Peregoy, David Peregoy, and Sandy Walters. He is survived by his wife Maria, his daughter Kelsey, grandchildren Calista, Camden, Cassidy, and Colette, as well as his siblings Diane White (spouse Roy White) and Brian Peregoy (spouse Diana Peregoy).

In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The National Veterans Foundation in his memory.  (See below for details)

Charlie will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a proud veteran, the "Open Space Guru," and a man whose humor, kindness, and love for family and nature will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
