Obituary

on January 11, Charles Hardyson Gurney peacefully entered into rest at the age of 79. Born in Baltimore to John Thomas, Sr. and Willie Duceile nee George, he shared his childhood with the late John, II his only brother. He is a disabled Navy veteran serving his country for 8 years as an AD2 Aviation Mechanic, 1954-62, participating in the Bay of Pigs standoff that shocked the world.  For his service Charles earned the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. For 17 years he was a civil servant working for NSA in Security, ultimately retiring in 1995. His varied hobbies and interest included bowling, in which he won many trophies, boating and membership in the White Rocks Yacht Club for 25 years, where he was past Commodore, as well as membership in Patrick Henry American Legion Post 34. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will greatly miss his company.
