Obituary

Catherine Louise Posey (nee Formwalt), age 60, passed away on February 17, 2014.  She was the dear daughter of Robert G. Formwalt and Gloria M. (nee Salamone), beloved wife of Charles Posey and devoted mother of Brandice N. and C. Eric Posey and sister to Stephen G Formwalt and Robert G Formwalt, Jr. Catherine was a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County.  She graduated from Andover High School and continued her education at the University of Maryland; College Park, where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree and then her Master of Arts. She was a member of Glen Burnie United Methodist Church. Catherine dedicated herself to family and to the community.  She had a passion for children and spearheaded the group, MOPs ( Mothers of Preschoolers) in conjunction with Glen Burnie UMC, which provided a program where mothers of preschoolers gathered at a designated place designed for  children and mothers to interact with each other.  She was instrumental in the design and implementation of the Pocket Park System within the Park West Community where she was responsible for the development of the association taking authority to maintain the park and the community.  Among her many accomplishments, Catherine also co-founded with her husband the Chesapeake BMX Track at Severn Danza Athletic Park. The BMX track was a first in the state to create a cooperative effort between county park resources and private enterprise for the benefit of the our residence in the sport of BMX.   All participants race according to their skill (novice, intermediate or expert) and age, riders start as young as age 4 and extend past the age of 50. This is the first BMX track in the Anne Arundel County aimed to meet the needs of the many BMX type bike riders who can now perfect their bike skills in a controlled, safe environment, learning proper technique and riding skills. She operated this park for 10 years before turning it over to a new manager 3 years ago.  Cathy and the family wrapped their vacations around her son Eric's BMX schedule and enjoyed traveling the country while doing so. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20 from 3-5 & 7-9 Pm at Fink Funeral Home, 426 Crain Hwy S., Glen Burnie, MD 21061, where services will be held on Friday at 10:45 AM.
